I have a Disorder

It's bad.  It's really really bad.
Some might call it an allergy to overpriced items, but I refer to it as the "I could make that for less" Syndrome.  Aka: ICMTFLS

I went shopping on Mother's Day.  Without the girls.  It was wonderful (Thank you for that gift Honey!).  I love shopping with my girls, but I am very focused and on a mission when they are in tow.  When I'm alone, I have the luxury of "browsing".   Unfortunately when I'm alone, my disorder goes into high gear.

I walked through Pottery Barn and found a beautiful quilt for Reagan's bed.  On sale.  For 100 dollars. Plus 40 dollars for the shams.  Plus 60 dollars for the sheets.
Or not.  Not when you have ICMTFLS.
Thanks to Amy and my newfound love of quilting, I am pretty sure I could make it for less.
Sometimes my disorder is SO bad that I can even look at something like this:

Or this:

and think "I could make that...for less."

It only gets worse when I go into the furniture department.  Thanks to one of my favorite new websites:

I'm even convinced that I could make this....for less:

I guess things could be worse.  I could have the "I've just got to have that" disorder where I actually spend the money.  Instead, my disorder is more delusional (and free).

Anyone else suffer from this? Should we start a support group?

  1. Ha ha!!! That is great!! I have a disorder called "I can FIND that for less" syndrome (ICFTFL). I will bargain hunt all over town and the internet to find something I like for way less. You might like this blog; she does the same thing as you - she has a ton of examples of things she's seen and remade herself: http://www.thestoriesofa2z.com/

I think your disorder is great; especially if you really can make those things - that is awesome and makes them so much more special!! (and probably cheaper too!)

  2. I think my disorder may just be "I don't want to pay that much" IDWTPTM.
But since I'm not at all crafty, I just have to be content with not having it :)

  3. If you can amke something from pottery barn for less I will buy it :) I love love love that store but everything is way out of my price range!!! I wish i could make EVERYTHING for less!

  4. I have the same disorder! Only I really *can't* make it, but I tell myself I can ;)

  5. Girl! We live too too far apart! What fun we would have together! Make sure you take pictures if you do make any of those things. :)

  6. Oh I love those first and third quilts! Good thing I hope to keep Em in her crib another year and don't have to worry about twin bedding yet. :) I kind of have your same disorder, except usually when I attempt to be crafty I get discouraged and never end up finishing it. :) I'm probably better at doing what Jaimie does and just finding it for less.

  7. I have the same syndrome as Jaimie...I can find that for cheaper. And then I never end up buying it...and a year later, I'm still missing curtains on a few windows in the house, for example.

  8. HA! I have the very same syndrome!
